Eliza Blanche was born on 23rd May 1853, the youngest daugher of James H and Sophia Clark. She was one of the first pupils of Howell’s School, Llandaff, Cardiff. She was believed (without any evidence) to have been admitted as a beneficiary of the trust established by the founder of the school, Thomas Howell, a wealthy merchant of Bristol, London and Seville who died 1536.
Blanche, remaining single, supported her father in his literary work. She also took a very active part in the community. For about fifty years she acted as an agent for the Conservative Party, and received a testimonial for her services rendered to Womens Unionist Association.
She lived an active life, and was even an air raid warden in her eighties during the Second World War! With her sister Julia, Blanche lived at Vine Cottage, Four Ash Street, behind the parish church, until shortly before her death on 30th August 1947 at Cardiff.

She wrote a book recording her experiences in travelling in Peru: Twelve Months in Peru, published by Unwin in 1891. The book is available online:
